Causes of Snoring

There is not only one factor as the cause of snoring. Many things can trigger it. Often it results from a combination of things.

The snore noise is created by fluttering movements of the soft palate and of the uvula, which happens while sleeping, when air movement during breathing is obstructed. Breathing air causes relaxed tissues to vibrate against the back of the throat. This irregular airflow in the throat is caused by a blockage and usually due to one of the following:

    some food and drinks stimulate snoring more than others; that is why if you are serious about de-snoring yourself start by detoxifying yourself.
    • For example, too much alcohol slackens the palate in your mouth, causing it to vibrate more, causing you to snore. If you are serious on this journey, we suggest you find other feel-good drinks by experimenting and trying new things. Don't be afraid to say no to the old things and try new ones. If that's too much too ask, at least avoid alcohol consumption at bedtime.
    • avoid dairy products, they are known to increase mucous production in some people. This extra mucous can restrict the airway passages and lead to, or intensify, snoring - try removing dairy products from your diet for a trial period of 2-3 weeks and see if there is improvement in your snoring.
    • intolerance to certain foods can cause inflammation of the digestive linings and air passages - if you suspect that this may be the case, keep a food diary, recording what you have eaten during the day. By linking this information with the severity of snoring during the night (you will need your partners input with this), you may be able to banish offending foods from your diet or plan their consumption for earlier in the day. Some common foods that trigger allergies include: wheat, fatty foods, processed foods
    • avoid food that makes you fat, you know the one. Being overweight means having excessive neck tissue that puts pressure on the airways. Result: snoring.
    • 30 minutes of daily vigorous exercise
    • Avoid sleeping flat on your back. Sleep on your side if possible. Some doctors even suggest sewing a golf or tennis ball into the back of your night clothes. Then, if you roll over onto your back, you are reminded to stay on your side because of the discomfort. Eventually, sleeping on your side will become a habit and you won't need to be reminded.

  • fat gathering in and around the throat, due to obesity - being overweight leads to excessive neck tissue that puts pressure on the airways
  • obstruction in the nasal passageway, distorted nasal septum, nasal congestion from colds or allergies - in some cases playing didgeridoo can bring about snoring relief, and in same cases can not
  • alcohol over-consumption slackens the palate, causing it to vibrate more

In order to have the snoring relief, you don't need to learn playing didgeridoo as if you would need to if you'd plan to give concerts. For a stronger palate it is sufficient to play it for the sake of producing sounds. The sounds vibrate aligning the palate to its natural state, and together with the actual blowing efforts, they strengthen the mouth & throat muscles giving your the snoring relief.

Also, in order to have the snoring relief, you don't need to play the authentic didgeridoo, the one made of wood. For it to serve the purpose, it could be made of anything, really. Here is a sample of home-made didgeridoo assembled from a PVC canalization pipe bought at a local hardware store.

Here is the list of all the do's on your path to recovery:

  • believe that you can relieve yourself from snoring and decide to do it
  • dig in and find the core cause of your snoring and decide there is something more important than that and let it go.
  • identified the symptoms of your snoring
  • read Quantum Healing at your leisure
  • exercise 30 minutes a day
  • Lose weight if you are overweight.
  • Avoid alcohol and other sedatives at bedtime.
  • Avoid sleeping flat on your back. Sleep on your side if possible.
  • refrain from diary products and other inflammatory food if possible
  • increase consumption of foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids (such as flaxseeds and walnuts), colorful vegetables and fruits
  • take the e-pills: visualize your goal, use proper affirmations, let snoring go with Sedona method or EFT or subliminal videos that you can even make yourself in Power Point program or any other
  • play didgeridoo every day a little - cca. 10 minutes
  • be generous, be grateful and be free
